ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: Liver transplantation is an essential surgical procedure for patients with liver problems that make the organ unable to perform its physiological functions and which, for this reason, needs to be removed and replaced with an healthy one. We therefore want to identify the role of the nurse in assisting the transplanted in the immediate post - operative period, managing the critically patient and identifying and treating any complications early, until discharge and subsequent follow up. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The many scientific articles found through the "PubMed" and "Google Scholar" databases and the manuals dealing with both the medical and nursing aspects of the liver, liver transplantation and post-operative care were essential. The execution of the two clinical internships at the SOD Clinica di Chirurgia Epatobiliare, Pancreatica e dei Trapianti and the SOD Anestesia e Rianimazione dei Trapianti e Chirurgia Maggiore of the Ospedale Regionale Riuniti of Ancona was fundamental to obtaining additional material. RESULTS: It is clear that the nurse is essential in accompanying the patient throughout all the post-surgical phases, effectively treating both the critical and non-critically patient. He takes care of the devices and their management, removing them when no longer needed, and ensuring a control on the possible factors that can trigger complications, thus causing an increase in hospitalization and a lowering of patient compliance. ensuring control over the possible factors that can trigger complications, thus causing an increase in hospitalization and a lowering of patient compliance. ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION: Nursing care focuses on everything that is post-operative, monitoring the patient in his critical and non-critical phase, preventing and treating any complications early and collaborating with other professionals in such a way as to guarantee a complete and effective assistance.
