Il processo di IPO e il fenomeno dell'underpricing: il caso Airbnb

This thesis aims to study and analyze the reasons, causes and risks that a company must face in order to be listed on the market. Subsequently, a well-known phenomenon in the listing process, underpricing, will be analysed. It consists of an anomalous price increase, following the first day of listing of the company, which determines important consequences on which the causes will be analyzed. And lastly, the case of Aribnb, a famous online rental company, which during 2020 decides to be listed on the stock exchange, during the covid 19 pandemic period, will be studied. The history of the company will be illustrated, how it was born and how it developed and its IPO process and the level of underpricing achieved will be analysed.

Questo elaborato si pone come obiettivo quello di studiare e analizzare i motivi, le cause e i rischi che una società deve affrontare per poter quotarsi nel mercato. Successivamente verrà analizzato un fenomeno ben noto nel processo di quotazione, l’underpricing. Esso consiste in un anomalo aumento di prezzo, a seguito del primo giorno di quotazione della società, che determina importanti conseguenze sulle quali verranno analizzate le cause. E in ultimo verrà studiato il caso Aribnb, famosa società di affitti online, che durante il 2020 decide di quotarsi in borsa, durante il periodo di pandemia di covid 19. Verrà illustrata la storia della società, come nasce e come si sviluppa e si analizzerà il suo processo di IPO e il livello di underpricing raggiunto.
