BACKGROUND: Physiotherapists are among the professionals who promote, treat and raise awareness over the health of the neuro-musculoskeletal system and despite having the knowledge and skills to know and avoid musculoskeletal disorders, they are among the most affected categories by work-related musculoskeletal disorders. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this cross-sectional study is to investigate the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders among Italian physiotherapists, and to compare various risk factors, including gender, age / experience, sport and work setting associated with musculoskeletal disorders. RESEARCH METHODS: a questionnaire developed based on the data reported by research papers was administered to a sample of 150 physiotherapists from various parts of Italy. The data was analyzed using the Chi-square test to verify the significance of the data. RESULTS: this research aims to investigate without finding precise answers regarding WMSDs. The data seem to show that there is a correlation to being female, older age, hospital work setting and physical inactivity. CONCLUSIONS: further information is required on the question, especially regarding the effect that sport can have, Planning prevention in physiotherapy structures by estimating the risk and acting accordingly. It would be good to develop training programs, both at work and during the training years, to teach not only to treat others but also to preserve oneself.
