Energia e Crisi Energetiche nella Storia Economica Italiana

Energy topic in 2023 doesn’t go unnoticed. Last winter, energy cuts were used as a weapon by the Russian front, in the Ukraine-Russia war, to subdue Europe. Also the climate change exacerbated by energy pollution is a current topic. Recent environmental disasters are the consequence: floods, rising temperatures, fires, desertification and rising sea levels. Analyzing the historical path that has brought us here makes us understand that these issues are not only strongly linked to the economy, but actually depend on it. All the political and economic decisions taken by various countries, the tensions and strategic ties that exist at a European and global level have led us to today's situation. Understanding these dynamics is certainly interesting and of fundamental importance. That is the reason why I believe it is important to retrace the history of energy and energy crises with particular focus on Italy. Starting from the origins, crossing the industrial revolution, then covering the Italian Nineteenth and Twentieth centuries. Dealing with the new energy sources introduced in the second half of the Twentieth century and finally reflecting on the energy crisis and the environmental issue.

Il tema dell’energia nel 2023 non passa inosservato. Nello scorso inverno il taglio dell’energia è stato utilizzato dal fronte russo, nella guerra Ucraina-Russia, come arma per piegare l’Europa. Anche il cambiamento climatico aggravato, dall’inquinamento energetico, è argomento corrente. Le recenti catastrofi ambientali ne sono la conseguenza: alluvioni, aumento delle temperature, incendi, desertificazione e innalzamento del livello del mare. Analizzare quale sia il percorso storico che ci ha portati fin qui, ci fa capire che questi temi non sono solo fortemente legati all’economia, ma dipendono proprio da essa. Tutte le decisioni politiche ed economiche prese dai vari paesi, le tensioni ed i legami strategici che esistono a livello Europeo e globale ci hanno condotto alla situazione odierna. Comprenderne le dinamiche è sicuramente interessante e di fondamentale rilevanza. Per questo ritengo importante ripercorrere la storia dell’energia e delle crisi energetiche con particolare focus sull’Italia. Partendo dalle origini, attraversando la rivoluzione industriale, percorrendo poi l’Ottocento e il Novecento italiano. Trattando delle nuove fonti energetiche introdotte nel secondo Novecento e riflettendo, infine, sulla crisi energetica e la questione ambientale.
