Adequate management and training of nursing staff in intensive care is essential to ensure that there is holistic and efficient care of the patient and his family. End-of-life care within contexts such as intensive care is often evaluated as "additional" or "optional", and is not considered as an integral part of care: it is important that there is a change of direction, from a nursing care focused on "treating" the patient's signs and symptoms, and one that is instead able to "take care" of the end of life.
Un’adeguata gestione e formazione del personale infermieristico in terapia intensiva è fondamentale per far sì che ci sia una presa in carico olistica ed efficiente del paziente e della sua famiglia. L’assistenza del fine vita all’interno dei contesti come la terapia intensiva è spesso valutata come “addizionale” o “opzionale”, e non viene considerata invece come parte integrante dell’assistenza: è importante che ci sia un cambio di rotta, da un’assistenza infermieristica incentrata sul “curare” i segni e sintomi del paziente, ad una che invece sia in grado di “prendersi cura” del fine vita.
