INTRODUCTION: With this thesis we aim to present an innovative type of peripherally inserted central venous access: the PICC-PORT (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter-Port-A-Cath), which brings together the best features of two other types of peripherally inserted central venous accesses namely the PICC (Peripherically Inserted Central Catheter) and the PORT (Port-A-Cath) which is usually implanted at the thoracic level. OBJECTIVES: to compare this new type of peripherally inserted central venous access with those most commonly used in clinical practice, thus trying to show how much more valuable this device is both in terms of advantages for the patient and the nurse in charge of its management, and in terms of costs, having fewer complications. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two search engines were used to conduct this literature review, namely; CINAHL and PUBMED, through the construction of search strings using SMESH methodology and Boolean operators. Articles from a time period from 2014 to 2024 and dealing with patients of age (>19 years) and written by various researchers, internationally were considered and then compared. RESULTS: Thanks to the methodology used, 9 articles dealing with studies belonging to the literature and comparing other types of peripherally inserted central venous accesses with this one this thesis is about: the PICC-PORT were considered. DISCUSSION: The characteristics of this type of device were shown comparing it with other types of central venous accesses belonging to the same category of devices. An attempt was made to highlight the favorable points of the PICC-PORT thus showing its advantages i.e., the lower costs and fewer complications and the better management both by the nurse in charge and the patient wearing it
