Introduction: Pediatric palliative care (PPC) deals with several issues of very high social impact, despite this, these are still poorly known among the population. These are an excellent tool for treating children and adolescents with life limiting conditions, life shortening conditions, and life treating, reducing the social pressure associated with these conditions. Aim: The purpose of this narrative review of the literature is to make health education with respect to PPCs, analyzing their functions, ethical principles, and the population to which they are aimed. It also aims to demonstrate how the activation of palliative pathways for pediatric patients improves the quality of life for them and their caregivers. Materials and Methods: Narrative review of the literature was performed by identifying different keywords through PICOM methodology. The target population is pediatric patients with life limiting conditions, life shortening conditions and life treating conditions aged 0-18 years. The search was carried out through search engines such as PubMed and Cochrane Library, smaller works such as national studies or clinical trials were also consulted. Results: Analysis of the selected articles showed that PPCs improve the quality of life for the child and his or her family while also reducing the cost to public spending. Despite this, there are some gaps that need to be filled especially from the organizational point of view. Conclusion: In the light of the results obtained and the articles included in the review, it is affirmed that the nurse has a fundamental role in the care of these patients and their families; In addition, home care associated with early access to these pathways have been shown to be elements that minimize the social pressure derived from these conditions.
