Introduction: The management of septic patients is considered a major challenge for emergency physicians and nurses; it is associated with a high mortality rate. The nursing role is crucial, both for early recognition of the disease state and for treating the patient professionally and promptly and providing care appropriate to the type of complexity that creates this disease state. With this study, an attempt will be made to highlight the importance of all the valid tools and methods used to be able to ensure optimal interventions and enable early identification. Objectives: The objective of this thesis is to go to understand what are the correct methodologies and suitable instrumentation that the nurse must implement towards the patient with sepsis or septic shock in order to reduce complications and prevent a poor prognosis. Materials and Methods: Database searches were performed and articles were selected. This search was conducted by using appropriate keywords to narrow the search field. After the articles were selected, an analysis of the articles was conducted. Results: Ten articles were selected from the search. The selection method was schematized through the PRISMA scheme, a tool by which it is possible to explain how the final articles were selected and what the exclusion criteria were. It is based on three indicators: identification, screening and inclusion. Discussions: The main themes covered in the articles were highlighted to evaluate the similarity criteria. In addition, the limitations of the study were reported Conclusions: The research found that early recognition and timely intervention are the key elements in reducing mortality risk. In addition, the role of the nurse in the care and management of the septic patient appears to be crucial.
