According to the World Health Organization, tobacco smoking is one of the leading preventable causes of disease and premature death globally. Every year, more than 8 million people die from tobacco-related harm, in addition to 1.2 million non-smokers exposed to second-hand smoke. Over the past decade, in addition to traditional tobacco products, new products have appeared on the market, often presented by the industry as less harmful alternatives. However, these products – such as e-cigarettes, heated tobacco devices and those containing nicotine salts for oral use – not only attract new consumers, but also make them dependent on nicotine. The use of additives and flavorings, in particular, increases the attractiveness and potential for addiction, especially among young people (ISS 2023). The data presented unequivocally underline the need to intensify health promotion interventions, in order to raise public awareness of the serious repercussions that the consumption of these products has on individual and collective health. By increasing knowledge of the risks associated with smoking, the aim is to drastically reduce the incidence of smoking-related diseases, thus contributing to protecting public health and promoting healthy behaviors within the population. In light of these considerations, this thesis aims to address the issue of smoking and nicotine addiction among students of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the Polytechnic University of Marche, with the aim of raising their awareness of the risks associated with the consumption of products used for smoking. In order to analyze this issue, a survey was conducted among students, with the aim of assessing their level of knowledge on the subject and detecting their smoking habits, so as to develop a health promotion project that the university may eventually decide to implement.

Abstract
In order to analyze this issue, a survey was conducted among students, with the aim of assessing their level of knowledge on the subject and detecting their smoking habits, so as to develop a health promotion project that the university may eventually decide to implement.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
