Background: Headaches, primary and secondary, represent a problem with a great prevalence in the epidemiological field, where among the most common forms, we find migraine. These problems can occur in conjunction with several possible disorders, such as temporomandibular ones, orofacial pain and poor sleep quality. Objective: The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the risk of orofacial pain, temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and poor sleep quality in adult patients with migraines compared to a control group. Methods: The study was conducted at the Headache Centre of the SOD Neurological Clinic (Hospitals Reunited of Ancona Torrette), on the proposal of Dr. Paolo Bizzarri, Physiotherapist. Patients suffering from migraine diagnosed by Neurologist Prof. Marco Bartolini and his team of doctors according to the ICHD-3 criteria, and subjects who did not have migraine. The two groups were evaluated using the evaluation scales: CF-PDI, TMD-Pain Screener, DC/TMD Symptom Questionnaire and PSQI. Results: The results obtained concerned the presence of orofacial pain (66.7% vs 8.3%), painful temporomandibular disorders (47.6% vs 12.5%), joint disorders (57.1% vs 33.3%) and poor sleep quality (71.4% vs 37.5%) in migraine patients compared to the control group. Discussion: In cases and controls, statistically significant associations were found for the prevalence of orofacial pain, poor sleep quality and painful temporomandibular disorders, but not for articular temporomandibular disorders. Conclusions: A higher risk of orofacial pain, painful temporomandibular disorders and poor sleep quality was found in migraine patients compared to subjects in the control group.
