Spinal cord injury is a pathology that causes significant changes in patients' quality of life. This observational study aims to investigate the level of satisfaction and the psychosocial impact of using different types of wheelchairs in people suffering from spinal cord injury. The data were collected through an online questionnaire administered to a sample of patients with quadriplegia and paraplegia, recruited from consumer associations and groups of companies that produce assistive devices; this questionnaire is based on the questions of the QUEST and the PIADS, among the instruments most cited in the literature for their validity and psychometric properties. The results suggest moderate overall satisfaction, with some aspects to improve regarding assistance services. The psychosocial impact measured by PIADS was limited, suggesting a marginal influence of assistive devices on factors such as self-esteem, skills and predisposition to new experiences. Critical issues have emerged with respect to some types of aids, such as electronic wheelchairs and posture systems. Furthermore, an interesting relationship was found between scores and years of use of assistive devices. This study underlines the importance of an in-depth evaluation of the outcomes of assistive devices, to promptly identify problems and limitations, reducing the risk of frustration among users and preventing the problem of abandonment. Understanding the factors that negatively influence the user experience allows to intervene to improve and adapt products and related services, encouraging continuous and effective use, as well as improving the quality of life and one's perception of oneself.
