INTRODUCTION This thesis aims to highlight the important role of nurses in the field of mental health. The complex topic under consideration is adolescent mental health disorders. This issue is currently significant in our society, where nurses play a fundamental role, especially during the hospitalization of these young individuals. The main focus of this thesis is the nursing process. MATERIALS AND METHODS The methodology used for this thesis consists of a bibliographic review of articles conducted on PubMed and free searches on the main websites of the Italian National Institute of Health, the Ministry of Health, the Children and Adolescents' Ombudsman, and other sites specific to child neuropsychiatry. Key nursing textbooks specific to mental health were also consulted. A care plan was created for adolescents with mental health issues, introducing specific assessment scales that could assist nurses, along with pre-structured care sheets for managing the main nursing diagnoses. RESULTS The results of this thesis align with the nursing process developed through the nursing care plan, which includes specific nursing diagnoses, related care objectives, nursing interventions, and outcomes in terms of benefits for the patient. For the assessment phase, two specific assessment scales were identified from the extensive literature reviewed: the HONOSCA and the RECOVERY STAR, both validated in Italian. These scales are crucial for objectively evaluating the patient’s initial condition and identifying clinical improvement following treatment.
