Introduction: in recent years, ultrasound has become a multidisciplinary tool not only for diagnosis but also as support for therapeutic procedures. It is used not only by physicians but also by properly trained nurses who require a rapid and non-invasive approach to patient care. The use of ultrasound for interventional purposes by nurses aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the care process. **Objective:** To assess the effectiveness of nursing ultrasound and its implications in nursing practice. It aims to analyze how the use of ultrasound affects nurses' decision-making abilities, reduces diagnostic wait times, minimizes the need for invasive procedures, and promotes safer, more accurate, and personalized patient management. Materials and Methods: a literature review was conducted by consulting scientific databases such as PubMed, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library. Articles published from 2013 to 2024 that analyzed the use of ultrasound by nurses in specific clinical contexts were selected. The keywords used were "ultrasound," "nurse," "bladder scanner," "vascular access," and "nasogastric tube," combined using the boolean operator "AND." Results and Discussion: the applicability of nursing ultrasound is demonstrated across various care pathways. It is used in the identification of urinary retention, significantly reducing the use of urinary catheters and lowering the risk of urinary tract infections. Additionally, high sensitivity has been demonstrated in confirming the correct placement of nasogastric tubes, reducing the need for radiography. Regarding peripheral venous access, ultrasound has decreased the number of attempts required, reducing patient discomfort and improving workflow. Conclusions: nursing ultrasound proves to be an effective and versatile tool that enhances the quality of care, helps reduce complications, optimizes diagnosis and treatment times, and increases nurses' autonomy. Furthermore, it allows for safer and more personalized patient management.
Risultati e discussione: l’applicabilità è dimostrata in vari percorsi assistenziali.
