The relationship between sleep quality and academic performance has been given considerable consideration in recent years as an object of study in various countries and contexts. In fact, sleep has a notable importance on the human organism, from a physical and psychological point of view. In this paper, we will look for possible correlations between sleep quality and university performance of students of the three year degree course in Nursing enrolled at the Università Politecnica delle Marche. This is a cross-sectional study. To measure the quality of sleep and academic performance, it was used a questionnaire which was disclosed via a link and was therefore completed online. To measure the quality of sleep, the PSQI scale was used, and the arithmetic average of the grades was asked to measure university performance. Microsoft Excel software was used for data analysis and processing. The results of the study highlighted a very weak, but present, positive correlation between sleep quality and academic performance. Despite this, a significant fact was observed to take into consideration, namely the high number of students who reported compromised sleep quality, scoring a score higher than 5 on the PSQI scale. The results of this study did not reveal a significant correlation between the quality of sleep and the academic performance of students. However, it emerged that a significant percentage of the sample (57.27%) had compromised sleep quality, with PSQI scores above 5. This study suggests that sleep-related problems are widespread among students and deserve further investigation. Practical implications include the need to develop interventions to improve sleep health in the student population and to conduct further research exploring the role of confounding variables and other factors that may influence both sleep and academic performance.

Abstract
Practical implications include the need to develop interventions to improve sleep health in the student population and to conduct further research exploring the role of confounding variables and other factors that may influence both sleep and academic performance.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
