ABSTRACT Background: In 2001, the World Health Organisation (WHO) stated that Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) was the fifth cause of death; at global, the number of people with this disease is increasing and by 2030, according to the estimates will become the third absolute cause of death in the world (MSD Manual - Bronchopneumopathy chronic obstructive). Education plays an important role in the approach to a chronic disease therapeutic, understood not only as adherence to therapy but also as self-care. The aim of the study is to identify the impact that COPD has on the quality of life of patient, and therefore the planning of educational interventions aimed at enhancing care of self and well-being despite the stage of the disease. Materials and methods: The following were consulted for literature review banks data "PubMed", "Mendeley" and "Cinhal". Fifteen articles were considered, the inclusion criteria being: The publication in the last 7 years, in Italian and English, which analysed the population with COPD and self-care as a result. Results: The results show that therapeutic education can help to Improve patient self-management and therapeutic adherence. Exercise in patients with COPD is effective in reducing dyspnea and increase the subject’s exercise capacity. Regarding rehabilitation Respiratory, it improves muscle strength, reduces anxiety and depression, so that they can carry out their daily activities more easily. Discussion and Conclusion: Educational interventions aimed at promotion of self-care have a concrete therapeutic potential. The latter has been essential in managing the disease, not only to improve one’s condition and slow down progress, but above all to improve the health and quality of patient life. Therapeutic education must be structured and designed according to Methodological steps to implement a project that promotes healthy behaviour and the presence of a dedicated health professional (WHO, 2001).
