Introduction: The case analyzed aims to identify the importance of knowledge and prevention of diseases, especially chronic ones such as Diabetes mellitus, highlighting the role of the nurse in the correct management of the pathology, prevention of complications such as hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, the correct use of devices and the search for new experimental techniques to promote 'healing'. The psychological aspect of the patient and his family and teamwork are also emphasized. Objectives: The nurse, through new techniques and tools and together with constant training, aims to improve the quality of life of patients. Material and methods: A semi-structured interview was conducted with a diabetic child and his parents and to identify the problems underlying the case. This type of interview, through its open and widely discursive structure, allows the interviewer to understand emotions and support those in front of them without judging. Results: The interview showed how much the experience lived by the child and his family was necessary to focus attention on the positive and negative aspects of healthcare that could then be improved or increased. Discussion: The clinical case in question is described in detail and the tools provided to parents for glycemic monitoring and insulin administration are analyzed to then arrive at a definitive therapeutic plan, thus defeating fears and doubts and improving the life of the entire family unit and the patient concerned. Conclusions: the training acquired in the university environment and the combination with continuous nursing training are essential in order to be able to respond to the new needs and vicissitudes that arise over time and to assist patients and their caregivers in the best possible way starting from the territory, avoiding exacerbation and hospitalization. This must be guaranteed starting from education, first scholastic and then health. It is also important to attribute to these highly trained figures the right value and professional and economic gratification.
