Dementia is a progressive pathological process characterised by cognitive decline that compromises daily functions, including the ability to drive. Although research has refined the diagnostic tools for this pathology, little attention has been focused on how different types of dementia affect driving. In fact, there is a growing body of research in the literature on driving and Alzheimer's disease (AD), but studies on focal dementias are scarce, especially those relating to semantic dementia (SD). In relation to this latter aspect, both individual and comparative studies on SD and AD have been conducted in depth; these have highlighted different results by administering a battery of experimental tests and a heterogeneous correlation of these with the hypometabolic brain areas studied with neuroimaging.

Abstract
Dementia is a progressive pathological process characterised by cognitive decline that compromises daily functions, including the ability to drive. Although research has refined the diagnostic tools for this pathology, little attention has been focused on how different types of dementia affect driving. In fact, there is a growing body of research in the literature on driving and Alzheimer's disease (AD), but studies on focal dementias are scarce, especially those relating to semantic dementia (SD). In relation to this latter aspect, both individual and comparative studies on SD and AD have been conducted in depth; these have highlighted different results by administering a battery of experimental tests and a heterogeneous correlation of these with the hypometabolic brain areas studied with neuroimaging.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
