The paper aims to analyze language as a complex institution, capable of intertwining its social and collective functions with a strategic role in today’s economic and technological dynamics. Following Ferdinand de Saussure’s conception of language as a structured system of signs, the role of the relationship between the signifier and the signified in the formation of shared meaning is emphasized. Language thus emerges as a social practice that helps consolidate social order and reproduce power relations. With the advent of digital technologies, language has acquired new functions and modes of circulation, becoming a tool to shape desires and consumption in a context characterized by information overload. Words not only enhance the persuasive power of messages but are also transformed by digital platforms into data, subsequently used for extractive activities such as profiling and targeted advertising. In this way, users, through their communicative interactions, unknowingly participate in the production of economic value, while algorithmic governance filters and hierarchizes content, guiding communicative codes and simultaneously influencing the ways messages circulate and are received.

Abstract
In this way, users, through their communicative interactions, unknowingly participate in the production of economic value, while algorithmic governance filters and hierarchizes content, guiding communicative codes and simultaneously influencing the ways messages circulate and are received.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
