Introduction The increasing complexity of healthcare systems requires nurses to possess not only technical and clinical competencies but also transversal abilities, known as Non-Technical Skills (NTS). These cognitive, interpersonal, and personal skills are essential to enhance safety, effectiveness, and quality of care (Flin, O’Connor, & Crichton, 2008). Objectives The aim of this thesis is to identify the best available scientific evidence regarding the role of NTS in nursing practice and their impact on communication, teamwork, decision-making, and patient safety. Materials and Methods A literature review was conducted using the PICO methodology. The main databases (PubMed/Medline, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar) were searched using keywords such as “Non-Technical Skills”, “Nursing”, “Teamwork”, and “Patient Safety”, combined with Boolean operators. Articles published in the last 17 years, in English or Italian, were included. Results The studies analyzed demonstrate that NTS improve inter professional collaboration, reduce the risk of errors, enhance situational awareness, and promote professional resilience. Tools such as SBAR and simulation-based training have proven particularly effective in developing NTS (Reader, Flin, Lauche, & Cuthbertson, 2006). Conclusions NTS are confirmed as a cornerstone of contemporary nursing practice. Their full integration requires structured educational pathways, supportive organizational environments, and continuous professional commitment, in order to combine technical excellence with human sensitivity and ensure safe, patient-centered care (World Health Organization, 2011). Keywords: Non-Technical Skills; Nursing; Situation Awareness; Teamwork; Decision Making; Simulation Training; Patient Safety.
Key-words: Non-Technical Skills; Nursing; Situation Awareness; Teamwork; Decision Making; Simulation Training; Patient Safety.
