INTRODUCTION School is a context where health emergencies may occur, yet in Italy teachers are not required to undergo structured training in first aid. The school nurse, with educational and formative functions, could fill this gap, making schools a safer environment for all students. OBJECTIVE To investigate teachers' knowledge of first aid procedures, from nursery school to lower secondary school. MATERIALS AND METHODS An observational cross-sectional study was conducted through the administration of an online questionnarie, which collected 67 responses. RESULTS The results highlighted gaps in teachers' knowledge regarding first aid procedures. Neverthelees, teachers expressed interest in receiving further specific training. The collected data were compared with evidence reported in national and international literature. CONCLUSIONS The study revealed deficiencies in teachers' first aid knowledge, confirming the need for structured training programs for all school staff. The role of the nurse as a health educator emerges as a fundamental support. The proposed brochure represents a first step towards the promotion of a "first aid culture" within schools.
