Introduction:Preoperative anxiety is something many patients face before undergoing surgery. For women, gynecological procedures can often trigger even more anxiety than other types of surgery, mainly due to worries about potential impacts on fertility, sexuality, or the pain that might come with the procedures. While medications like sedatives and benzodiazepines are frequently used to help ease this anxiety, they can also bring about unwanted side effects. To sidestep these issues, researchers are increasingly looking into non-drug methods as alternatives to traditional premedication. Objective:This literature review aims to give a thorough overview of how effective non-pharmacological methods are in managing preoperative anxiety for women undergoing gynecological surgery. Materials and Methods:In this study, we conducted a literature review by searching through various scientific databases for relevant articles. We identified all articles using keywords based on our research question. The selection and analysis of these articles followed the PRISMA framework. Results:The studies we analyzed show that non-pharmacological interventions, like aromatherapy and music therapy, can significantly lower scores on preoperative anxiety assessment tools, such as the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and the Visual Analogue Scale for Anxiety (VAS-A). This suggests that these methods are effective in reducing preoperative anxiety for women facing gynecological surgery. Conclusion:Non-pharmacological interventions are not only effective but also safe and easy to implement in clinical settings. The studies reviewed emphasize the need to regularly incorporate these strategies during the preoperative phase to improve anxiety management and enhance the comfort of women undergoing surgical procedures.
