Introduction: The intensive care setting is highly delicate and requires the presence of highly qualified personnel due to the critical condition of patients and the complexity of the equipment involved. Managing such an environment demands a multidisciplinary approach that includes continuous monitoring of vital signs, holistic patient care, and the management of potential emergencies. In this context, the nurse’s role is fundamental to ensuring timely and effective care. Objectives: This thesis aims to analyze the activities within the intensive care unit, explain the variety of tools and equipment that patients may require during their hospitalization, and describe all related nursing activities. It outlines the competencies necessary for clinical assessment, the management of intensive therapies, and continuous monitoring. Materials and Methods: Through a bibliographic review, textbooks, scientific articles, and online journals concerning nursing management in various aspects of intensive care were critically analyzed. The institutional protocol of the Azienda Ospedaliero Universitaria delle Marche was also taken into consideration. Results: The analysis highlights the importance of a holistic approach that encompasses not only nursing and medical care but also the psychological and emotional support of patients and their families. In this setting, nurses must possess specific knowledge, including technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and critical thinking. Conclusions: The effectiveness of medical treatments, combined with appropriate nursing care, is a key factor in improving the prognosis of patients admitted to intensive care. The implementation of standardized protocols and the continuous training of healthcare professionals are essential to optimize clinical outcomes and reduce the risk of complications.
