Introduction: Timely intervention, consisting of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers and early electrical defibrillation (when possible and indicated), represents the only effective response in cases of cardiac arrest. For this reason, it is essential to organize and promote training courses for citizens and to implement AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) in public places. In 2014, UNIVPM launched the UNIPAD project with the aim of reducing the time between cardiac arrest and resuscitation intervention by installing five AEDs (Automatic/Semiautomatic External Defibrillators) located in the five UNIVPM campuses of Ancona (Medicine and Surgery, Economics, Agriculture, Engineering, and Sciences). The purpose of this thesis is to investigate university students’ knowledge regarding AEDs, their correct use, and their location within each campus. In this context, the nurse plays a central role in educating citizens about CPR techniques and the proper use of the AED. Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional observational study. A questionnaire was administered to all UNIVPM students from the campuses of Medicine and Surgery, Agriculture, Sciences, Economics, and Engineering in Ancona. Results: A total of 401 responses were collected, allowing the identification of key topics such as practical knowledge of AED use among students from different faculties, self-perceived preparedness to use the life-saving device, and the limitations recognized by participants that might hinder their intervention in case of need. Data Analysis: Data analysis was conducted in full compliance with privacy and participant anonymity. Discussion and Conclusions: The analysis of the results highlighted the need to implement training courses and awareness campaigns within every degree program in order to make young people more conscious and ready to intervene when necessary. Moreover, it underlined the importance of improving signage and the placement of AEDs to ensure easy access for everyone.
