In recent years, chronic-degenerative diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and type 2 diabetes have become leading causes of global mortality. Prevention, particularly through the modification of lifestyle-related risk factors, has therefore become a key public health goal. Among the most effective interventions, nutrition plays a central role: numerous studies show that plant-based diets—rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains, and low in animal products—significantly reduce the risk of these diseases. This paper, based on a literature review (PubMed, Cochrane, BMC Medicine), selected ten studies confirming the preventive benefits of plant-based diets against diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. In conclusion, promoting plant-based nutrition means supporting not only individual and public health but also environmental and ethical sustainability. Nurses play a fundamental role in health education and in disseminating these scientific findings.
Negli ultimi anni le malattie cronico-degenerative, come patologie cardiovascolari, cancro e diabete di tipo 2, rappresentano una delle principali cause di mortalità mondiale. La prevenzione, soprattutto attraverso la modifica dei fattori di rischio legati allo stile di vita, è oggi un obiettivo prioritario. Tra gli interventi più efficaci emerge l’alimentazione: numerose evidenze mostrano che le diete a base vegetale, ricche di frutta, verdura, legumi e cereali integrali e povere di prodotti animali, riducono significativamente il rischio di tali patologie. Questo elaborato, basato su una revisione della letteratura (PubMed, Cochrane, BMC Medicine), ha selezionato dieci studi che confermano i benefici preventivi delle diete vegetali su diabete, cancro e malattie cardiovascolari. In conclusione, promuovere un’alimentazione vegetale significa favorire non solo la salute individuale e pubblica, ma anche la sostenibilità ambientale ed etica. Gli infermieri rivestono un ruolo fondamentale nell’educazione e nella diffusione di queste evidenze.
