This thesis explores the role of the Socio-Health Professional Educator in the prevention, care, and support of individuals affected by Eating Disorders (EDs), with a particular focus on educational and rehabilitative intervention in residential settings. Starting from the “National Lilac Ribbon Day,” established to raise public awareness about EDs, the work highlights the increasing prevalence of these conditions among adolescents and young adults, often experienced in silence and isolation. The thesis is divided into four chapters: the first chapter provides a definition and classification of Feeding and Eating Disorders according to DSM-5 diagnostic criteria; The second chapter analyzes the causes and risk factors; The third chapter delves into the influence of social media and societal body image ideals, introducing scientific concepts such as body dysmorphia and distorted body perception, as well as new phenomena like orthorexia, bigorexia, and drunkorexia. The fourth chapter focuses on the internship experience at the residential care facility “Villa Oasi,” accredited for the treatment of EDs. Here, an educational and rehabilitative project was implemented for a group of users aged between 15 and 27. The thesis emphasizes the importance of multidisciplinary teamwork and the value of personalized educational interventions capable of restoring the individual’s sense of self and dignity during treatment.
