This thesis examines the role and functioning of central banks in the United States and India, focusing on the Federal Reserve and the Reserve Bank of India. The main objective is to compare their institutional structures, monetary policy instruments, and strategies used to achieve price stability, economic growth, and financial stability. The study analyzes the historical and economic background that led to the establishment of both central banks, highlighting key similarities and differences in terms of independence, governance, and market interventions. Furthermore, the thesis explores the role of monetary policy in responding to economic shocks and financial crises. The research concludes with a comparative evaluation of the effectiveness of the policies adopted, offering insights into the evolving role of central banks in modern economies.
La presente tesi analizza il ruolo e il funzionamento delle banche centrali negli Stati Uniti e in India, con particolare riferimento alla Federal Reserve e alla Reserve Bank of India. L’obiettivo principale è quello di confrontare le strutture istituzionali, gli strumenti di politica monetaria e le strategie adottate dalle due autorità monetarie nel perseguimento della stabilità dei prezzi, della crescita economica e della stabilità finanziaria. La ricerca esamina il contesto storico ed economico che ha portato alla nascita delle due banche centrali, evidenziandone le principali differenze e similitudini in termini di indipendenza, governance e interventi sui mercati finanziari. Inoltre, viene analizzato il ruolo delle politiche monetarie in risposta a shock economici e crisi finanziarie. Lo studio si conclude con una valutazione comparativa dell’efficacia delle politiche adottate, offrendo una riflessione sul ruolo delle banche centrali nei moderni sistemi economici.
