Introduction: Burnout is a very common syndrome among nurses working in the oncology setting. The complexity of care, the workload, and the emotional component of the nurse-patient relationship expose healthcare professionals to stress, making them more susceptible to burnout. Objective: The objective of this study is to analyze the impact of burnout on the quality of oncology care. It identifies risk factors, prevention strategies, and monitoring systems to promote the well-being of healthcare workers. Materials and Methods: A review of the scientific literature was conducted. The articles selected for the thesis were searched through major biomedical databases, including PubMed and Google Scholar. Additionally, institutional and regulatory documents were consulted, including the Nurses' Code of Ethics, Ministerial Decree No. 739 of 1994, the National Oncology Plan 2023-2027, and documents from the World Health Organization. Results: Scientific literature defines the oncology setting as one of the healthcare settings most exposed to burnout. The main risk factors are high workload, emotional involvement, and constant contact with pain, suffering, and sometimes death. Discussion: Burnout in oncology nurses has significant repercussions both on the well-being of the professional and on the quality of patient care. Therefore, it is crucial to adopt appropriate prevention strategies, both individual and organizational. It is equally important to monitor the stress level of oncology nurses using validated tools, such as the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). Keywords: burnout, oncology, nurse-patient relationship, empathy, emotions.
