Nursing care for pediatric oncology patients must take into account the patient’s particular physical and emotional vulnerability, as well as the evident impact that oncological disease has on the patient’s entire family unit. To this end, especially in recent years, there has been a growing belief that the nurse’s role in this context cannot be limited to purely clinical care; rather, it should also involve supporting the psychological well-being of the child and, as far as possible, that of their family members and home caregivers. This holistic approach has recently received considerable support from scientific evidence, as is clear from a review of a representative portion of the literature on the subject. The aim of this thesis, therefore, is to present in a concise manner the shared view of the scientific community regarding the particular effectiveness—compared to traditional care protocols focused on hospital stays—of an integrated, holistic nursing approach that pays attention to the family relationships of the young patient, especially in the context of home care, where this approach proves particularly beneficial in improving the child’s physical and emotional conditions.

Abstract
Nursing care for pediatric oncology patients must take into account the patient’s particular physical and emotional vulnerability, as well as the evident impact that oncological disease has on the patient’s entire family unit. To this end, especially in recent years, there has been a growing belief that the nurse’s role in this context cannot be limited to purely clinical care; rather, it should also involve supporting the psychological well-being of the child and, as far as possible, that of their family members and home caregivers. This holistic approach has recently received considerable support from scientific evidence, as is clear from a review of a representative portion of the literature on the subject. The aim of this thesis, therefore, is to present in a concise manner the shared view of the scientific community regarding the particular effectiveness—compared to traditional care protocols focused on hospital stays—of an integrated, holistic nursing approach that pays attention to the family relationships of the young patient, especially in the context of home care, where this approach proves particularly beneficial in improving the child’s physical and emotional conditions.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
