Nowadays, one of the greatest technological revolutions in the transportation and renewable energy sectors is driven by the development of lithium-ion batteries. The impact of this technology is highly evident in portable electronics, which have become lighter and longer-lasting thanks to the high energy density and excellent cycle life of these batteries, as well as in the transport sector, where they play a crucial role in the energy transition. Furthermore, they are essential for energy storage in renewable power systems. However, since batteries are subject to degradation and aging over time, it is necessary to study these processes through various methodologies. In particular, this study focuses on the analysis and implementation of MATLAB functions for the characterization of the charging, discharging, and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) of Sanyo and Panasonic NCR18650BL lithium-ion batteries, using the Keysight N6705C instrument equipped with N6781A and N6783A modules. The developed functions are divided into two main categories: those for charge and discharge management, which implement the two-quadrant (PS2Q) mode with Constant Current (CC) and Constant Voltage (CV) phase control via internal or external data logging, and those for EIS characterization, which leverage the arbitrary waveform (ARB) mode of the N6781A module to generate current sinusoids in the 10 mHz – 1000 Hz range while simultaneously acquiring the battery’s voltage and current response signals. The experimental results obtained for the validation of these functions are reported in Chapter 5.

Abstract
The experimental results obtained for the validation of these functions are reported in Chapter 5.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
