In recent years logistics has taken on a strategic role in corporate competitiveness, within a context shaped by the growth of e-commerce, the increasing complexity of supply chains and sustainability-related pressures. In this scenario, artificial intelligence has emerged as one of the main technologies for addressing these challenges. This thesis analyses the role of artificial intelligence in logistics, illustrating its main applications and assessing their benefits and drawbacks. After defining the logistics function and the underlying artificial intelligence technologies, the work examines the main areas of application along the logistics chain: demand forecasting, warehouse automation, transport optimisation, predictive maintenance, risk management and last-mile logistics. The literature review is complemented by a case study on DHL, which makes it possible to observe the concrete application of these technologies in a real-world context. A balanced picture emerges, in which benefits in terms of efficiency, cost and service quality are accompanied by economic, employment-related, ethical and regulatory concerns, including the new European regulation on artificial intelligence.
La logistica ha assunto negli ultimi anni un ruolo strategico per la competitività delle imprese, in un contesto segnato dalla crescita dell'e-commerce, dalla crescente complessità delle catene di approvvigionamento e dalle pressioni legate alla sostenibilità. In questo scenario l'intelligenza artificiale si è affermata come una delle tecnologie principali per affrontare tali sfide. Il presente elaborato analizza il ruolo dell'intelligenza artificiale nella logistica, illustrandone le principali applicazioni e valutandone benefici e criticità. Dopo aver definito la funzione logistica e le tecnologie di intelligenza artificiale, il lavoro esamina i principali ambiti applicativi lungo la catena logistica: previsione della domanda, automazione di magazzino, ottimizzazione dei trasporti, manutenzione predittiva, gestione del rischio e logistica dell'ultimo miglio. L'analisi della letteratura è integrata da un caso studio dedicato a DHL, che consente di osservare l'applicazione concreta di queste tecnologie in un contesto reale. Emerge un quadro equilibrato, in cui ai benefici in termini di efficienza, costi e qualità del servizio si affiancano criticità di natura economica, occupazionale, etica e normativa, tra cui il nuovo regolamento europeo sull'intelligenza artificiale.
