This thesis analyzes, by means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), the thermo-fluid dynamic behavior of an innovative prototype of a solar dryer/oven, within the development of decentralized systems for low- and medium-temperature heat production. The objective is to characterize the temperature distribution inside the device, assessing the ability of the numerical model to reproduce the behavior observed experimentally. The prototype consists of an aluminum absorbing sphere and, in the oven configuration, an external glass enclosure that forms an air gap and allows the exploitation of solar radiation transmission and the greenhouse effect. Three-dimensional models were developed in Ansys Fluent for the two operating configurations, adopting the Boussinesq approximation for natural convection and the Surface-to-Surface and Solar Ray Tracing models to describe radiative heat transfer. The numerical results were compared with reference experimental data. For the solar dryer configuration, the simulation shows an average temperature in the central area of the chamber of 55.83 °C. Comparison with the experimental value of 55.50 °C results in a deviation of +0.33 °C, corresponding to approximately 0.60%. In the solar oven configuration, the central operating temperature reaches 73.21 °C. Comparison with the experimental value of 78.40 °C shows a deviation of −5.19 °C, corresponding to approximately 6.6%. The results confirm the ability of the CFD model to describe the main thermo-fluid dynamic phenomena of the prototype under the conditions analyzed, while constituting a preliminary study.
