This thesis studies the dynamic behavior of flexible robotic structures through the implementation of a geometric theory surveyed in [4]. Its main goal is to validate this variational formulation, in which the state of the robot is described by a line of centroids together with the instantaneous orientations of its sections, taken as elements of the group SO(3). In order to achieve a high level of physical realism, the simulations consider a soft robotic structure made of silicone elastomer, whose specific hyperelastic and dissipative properties are taken into account. In addition, the robot is modeled as a solid (non-hollow) cylinder, whose circular cross-section is assumed to be uniform along the whole length. The coupled non-linear equations of motion, which include elastic, gravitational and magnetic interactions, are solved in a MATLAB ® -based environment. Considerable attention is devoted to the methodological reasons behind the choice of the simulation parameters and of the mathematical operators adopted to guarantee physical consistency, with particular regard to how stress and momentum densities are mapped. To show that the model can adapt to different physical constraints, it is tested under several boundary conditions. The results confirm that the formulation correctly reproduces both large non-linear deformations and the response to magnetic fields, proving the effectiveness of the model for the design and simulation of soft robotic systems operating in complex environments.

Abstract
The results confirm that the formulation correctly reproduces both large non-linear deformations and the response to magnetic fields, proving the effectiveness of the model for the design and simulation of soft robotic systems operating in complex environments.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
