Fractures of the tibia, particularly unstable or open ones, may require the use of an external fixator to maintain proper alignment of the bone fragments during the healing process. The assessment of bone consolidation still relies primarily on radiographic examinations, which provide morphological information but expose the patient to ionizing radiation. In this context, vibration analysis emerges as a potential complementary, non invasive technique based on variations in the dynamic properties of the bone associated with the loss and subsequent recovery of its stiffness. Previous studies have shown that the fixator pins can be used as mechanical access points to the bone, reducing the damping effect introduced by soft tissues. This work builds upon those studies but further investigates the preliminary validation phase of the measurement method, systematically analyzing the sensitivity of the results to changes in experimental conditions, with the aim of identifying a stable and repeatable configuration. Although it was not possible to satisfactorily reproduce the trend of the reference measurements, the study allowed us to identify the main sources of variability and to define the conditions that must be controlled to improve the accuracy and repeatability of the acquisitions. These findings provide a foundation for the future standardization of the method.

Abstract
These findings provide a foundation for the future standardization of the method.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
