This thesis aims to identify and characterize an optimized geometric configuration for a extractor hood suction system, in order to enhance its fluid dynamic performance while simultaneously reducing its acoustic impact. The experimental methodology involved setting up an automated test bench managed via LabVIEW, where a robotic arm equipped with a Pitot tube and an anemometer scanned the air velocity field in both the inlet and outlet sections across four different geometric configurations (C1, C2, C3, and C4). The experimental data were processed in MATLAB to reconstruct 2D color-mapped and 3D representations of the flow field, enabling the analysis of velocity profiles and standard deviations. These fluid dynamic results were subsequently correlated with acoustic characterization tests by interpolating sound power levels as a function of airflow rate. The comparative analysis identified Configuration 2 as the best overall engineering compromise. In the inlet section, it promotes a smooth and uniform airflow across the entire intake area, minimizing entry losses; in the outlet section, it achieves superior global balance and effective turbulence control. This optimization of the flow structure yields a significant acoustic benefit, achieving a noise level reduction of up to 1.72 dB(A) at equivalent airflow rates compared to the standard setup.

Abstract
This optimization of the flow structure yields a significant acoustic benefit, achieving a noise level reduction of up to 1.72 dB(A) at equivalent airflow rates compared to the standard setup.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
