In this context, the nurse plays a fundamental role by being present from the prevention phase up to the response and rehabilitation phase. In these events, healthcare professionals are subjected to a high psychological stress that could generate further psychological problems significantly affecting the physical and emotional state of the professional, in response to them some useful tools have been identified that are commonly used to deal with such situations.

L'obbiettivo della tesi è descrivere le caratteristiche di una maxi- emergenza extraospedaliera, cioè una situazione che porta a sconvolgere l'ordine precostituito, dove i protagonisti, i mezzi e le procedure utilizzate diventano essenziali per rispondere correttamente con efficacia ed efficienza ad un evento catastrofico. L'infermiere in questo contesto assume un ruolo fondamentale essendo presente sin dalla fase di prevenzione, fino alla fase di risposta e di riabilitazione. In questi eventi, gli operatori sanitari sono soggetti ad un elevato stress psicologico che potrebbe generare ulteriori problemi psicologici incidendo significamene sullo stato fisico ed emotivo del professionista, in risposta ad essi sono stati individuati alcuni strumenti utili che vengono comunemente utilizzati per fronteggiare tali situazioni.
