Sviluppo finanziario e crescita economica: relazione teorica ed evidenze empiriche

The aim of the paper is to investigate the relationship between financial development and economic growth through an in-depth theoretical analysis of the extensive literature, looking at developments following the 2008 global financial crisis. Differences in the relationship are highlighted with reference to factors related to income, geography and financial structure. Finally, the recent repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic from a financial and economic point of view are analysed, as well as the issues that may lead to an advancement of studies on the "finance-growth nexus". Lastly, a report is attached which aims to examine the macro-trends of the sub-indices underlying the IMF's Financial Development Index: the objective is to highlight significant differences in relation to the factors previously reported at a theoretical level in terms of depth, access and efficiency of financial institutions and markets.

L'elaborato ha come obiettivo quello di approfondire la relazione tra sviluppo finanziario e crescita economica attraverso un'analisi teorica approfondita dell'ampia letteratura presente, osservandone gli sviluppi a seguito della crisi finanziaria globale del 2008. Vengono evidenziate le differenze della relazione con riferimento a fattori legati a reddito, area geografica e struttura finanziaria. Infine si analizzano le recenti ripercussioni della pandemia di COVID-19 sotto il profilo finanziario ed economico e le questioni che possono portare ad un avanzamento degli studi sul "finance-growth nexus". Da ultimo viene allegato un report volto ad un approfondimento delle macro-tendenze dei sub-indici sottostanti il Financial Development Index del FMI: l'obiettivo è quello di sottolineare differenze significative in relazione ai fattori precedentemente riportati a livello teorico sotto i profili di profondità, accesso ed efficienza di istituzioni e mercati finanziari.
