Introduction – Heart failure is a disease characterized by the progressive deterioration of heart function such as to determine a significant impact on the quality and duration of life of the people affected by it. To overcome this problem, in the absence of indications for heart transplantation (ex. destination therapy), the implantation of a Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) has been seen to be effective, for the management of which the intervention of a multidisciplinary Team is required highly trained in the field. Therefore, it is interesting, concerning assistance, to know how the most effective technical-educational-relational nursing interventions can be put during the Follow-Up practice. Objective – The purpose of this work is to seek up-to-date scientific evidence that allows us to point up the importance of the many nursing activities in the Follow-Up in patients with Ventricular Assist Device (VAD). Materials and methods – It was made a thesis thanks to the articles found on MEDLINE-PubMed, Cochrane Database and Google Scholar. The other data are the result of a review of the material provided by the SOD UTIC of the Azienda Ospedali Riuniti of Ancona. Conclusions – The Follow-Up activities proposed by the Italian clinics, assure complete care of the patients; however, for some members of the VAD Team, such as the Nurse VAD Coordinators, there isn’t lack full professional recognition. Given the increasing use of Ventricular Assist Devices in the clinical practice, it’s desiderable a changement in the years to come.
