The Conero promontory is the only major rocky interruption along the predominantly sandy western Adriatic coastline and supports a heterogeneous mosaic of benthic habitats. This study characterised its benthic biodiversity through taxonomic surveys, habitat mapping and spatial analyses. Georeferenced underwater video transects were used to compile a taxonomic checklist, classify habitats according to the EUNIS system and compare benthic communities on the northern and southern sides of the Scoglio del Trave. Habitat maps were produced using GIS, together with an assessment of their spatial overlap with human activities. A total of 122 taxa belonging to nine phyla were recorded, with hard-bottom habitats supporting higher taxonomic richness than soft sediments. The northern sector showed greater habitat heterogeneity, with frequent rocky outcrops and Sabellaria reefs, whereas the southern sector was mainly characterised by extensive sandy bottoms. These patterns were reflected in benthic community composition, highlighting the role of habitat heterogeneity in supporting biodiversity. The taxonomic checklist and habitat maps provide an ecological baseline for future monitoring, marine spatial planning and biodiversity conservation.
