This thesis work stems from a strong interest in sharing economy platforms and in how the new travel patterns, born thanks to this phenomenon, are radically changing and upsetting tourism. The sharing economy, a complex phenomenon that can be framed as an economic model based on the sharing of underutilized goods, services, knowledge and skills, allows access to multiple resources on an increasingly large scale, it's "shortening" geographic and cultural distances and relationships among people, and changing the consumption patterns, as well as travel and life in general of those who participate. This is happening thanks to the proliferation and development of company-managed online platforms, which match users in search of a particular good or service with other ones having excess of it. What's been just said can be done with a few simple steps and clicks from a smartphone. This paper aims to investigate the aforementioned theme with particular attention to the hospitality sector and therefore to the phenomenon of accommodation sharing, that is the sharing of rooms, houses or apartments between private individuals through online platforms. Airbnb represents the major player in this field and its exponential growth in the last decade since its birth, compared to hotels and other established competitors, has highlighted how travelers have changed over the years. Nowadays, they are driven by the desire of trying new things and looking for a more diverse and authentic tourist offer than the traditional one, as well as a cheaper one. The main chapter describes the study conducted on the motivational factors and obstacles to the use of Airbnb for the choice of out-of-door accommodation: many factors have emerged in confirmation of previous publications on the subject, while others in contrast.
Il presente lavoro di tesi nasce da un forte interesse nelle piattaforme di sharing economy e in come le nuove forme di viaggio nate grazie a tale fenomeno stiano radicalmente rivoluzionando, se non sconvolgendo, il mondo del turismo. La sharing economy, fenomeno complesso inquadrabile come un modello economico basato sulla condivisione di beni, servizi, conoscenze ed abilità sottoutilizzati, sta permettendo l’accesso a molteplici risorse su una scala sempre più ampia e impensabile non molti anni fa, “accorciando le distanze” geografiche e culturali tra le persone, e cambiando le modalità di consumo, di viaggio e di vita in generale di coloro che vi partecipano. Questo grazie alla proliferazione e sviluppo di piattaforme online, gestite da altrettante società, che mettono in contatto utenti in cerca di un particolare bene o servizio con un altro utente che ne ha in eccesso e da offrire: tutto con pochi e semplici passaggi e click dal proprio smartphone. Il presente elaborato si propone di approfondire il tema suddetto con particolare attenzione all’ambito ricettivo e quindi al fenomeno dell’ accomodation sharing, ovvero la condivisione tra privati di stanze, case o appartamenti per il tramite di piattaforme online. Airbnb ne rappresenta il maggior player in tal senso e la sua esponenziale crescita in poco più di un decennio dalla sua nascita, rispetto anche a hotel e altri concorrenti affermati, ha evidenziato come i viaggiatori sono cambiati negli anni, spinti ad oggi soprattutto dalla voglia di provare nuove cose e dalla ricerca di un’offerta turistica più diversificata ed autentica rispetto a quella tradizionale, oltre che più economica. L'ultimo e principale capitolo illustra l'indagine condotta dal sottoscritto sui fattori motivazionali e di ostacolo all’utilizzo di Airbnb per la scelta di alloggi fuori porta, evidenziandone molti in conferma delle pubblicazioni precedenti in merito, ma altri in contrasto con quest'ultime.
