Abstract
The need to drastically reduce the use of synthetic plastics in the packaging sector in the near future is now a priority. The European Union has provided funding for research and development of environmentally friendly packaging. The purpose of the work was to submit biodegradable packaging prototypes to thermal and mechanical resistance tests, and at the end of the tests evaluations were carried out on the individual prototypes taking into account the aesthetic and functional aspects. The prototypes tested are 16 caps made of straw wrapped in PLA film that must be used as secondary packaging for bottles of oil and fine wine. The results of the tests are generally positive as regards mechanical strength: horizontal impact, vertical impact and deformation resistance tests were carried out. The thermal conditioning tests have highlighted the need to organize refrigerated transport in the hottest periods of the year over long distances. The aesthetic evaluations were unsatisfactory, as the prototypes analyzed in some cases have imperfections such as: bioplastic film lesion, poor straw cohesion and poor resistance to deformation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
